1506 - In May, Leonardo is summoned to Milan by Charles d'Amboise, the French governor.
1507 - Leonardo is appointed Louis XII's painter and engineer. He paints a second version of the Virgin on the Rocks, meets his beautiful assistant Francesco Melzi, and travels yet again to Florance pursuing a lawsuit against his brothers concerning his inheritance from his deceased uncle.
1508 - Leonardo returns to Milan and spends a long period studying anatomy, town-planning, optics, and hydraulic engineering.
1513 - Leonardo moves to Rome, and while living in the Vatican studies the properties of mirrors.
